DRAW
Teams will be organised as Senior A, Senior B – 11, 12 & 13 year olds
Junior A, Junior B – 10 years & younger Junior C – Year 3 only- Netta rules- no scoring
Due to the large number of B teams entered in the senior competition, the draw has been split into 2 pools. Pool 1 and Pool 2. These are NOT graded, and teams were drawn out of a hat! The top 2 teams from each pool will make up the final 4 teams for finals.
No rounds will be missed due to washouts etc. If a Friday is rained out, the round will be played on the following Friday.
Please mark off at the noticeboard when your school has arrived each Friday, so games can commence as soon as all teams are present. Please choose 1 responsible student or adult to do this every week, and ensure that ONLY the week being played has been marked.

GAMES
‘B’ games will be played first. Games will commence at approx. 1pm. All games will consist of 15 minute halves – seniors and juniors. There will be a 5 minute break at half time and teams will change ends. Umpires will swap for second half. “A’ and “C” games will commence at approx. 1:45pm. Games will be centrally timed. A bell or hooter will indicate starting and finishing times. Please leave scoring folders in the centre of the court after the “B”games. Return scoring folders to the box near the noticeboard after the final games.

UMPIRING
For each game, each team is to provide an umpire for half the game. Where possible, teachers are to umpire for their schools. If parents are umpiring they must be experienced. No primary student is to umpire. Please remember to check fingernails and jewellery prior to the game. Umpires must have their own whistle and ensure that scorers are sitting together. Any player who has an injury which is bleeding must come off the court and cover the wound before resuming play. The only hat to be worn on the court is the “rubbery” type made from the wetsuit material, neoprene.

POINT SCORE
3 Points – Win
2 Points – Draw
1 Point – Loss

SEMI FINAL ROUND
1 v 4
2 v 3
The winners of these games meet in the finals. Social games will be arranged for other teams on semi final day only. Schools must provide own umpires for these rounds. Umpires will be arranged for the Finals. There will be no finals for Netta.

COURTS
All A & B grade games will be played on the asphalt courts. All netta games will be played on the grass courts. Each school is responsible for “padding up” at least 1 court every week. See the accompanying roster. Due to construction works, we have elected not to use some of our regular courts, and instead for the first time, will use the courts near the youth hall and children’s playground. The courts have been designated into Junior and Senior areas. See the accompanying map for more details.

BALLS
Netta games will use a Size 4 ball. All other games will use a Size 5 ball.

NETTA RULES

Instead of using a full sized Netball (size 5) ball, a smaller one – size 4 – is used.
This helps to develop throwing and catching skills
The goal posts in Netta Netball are only 2.4 metres high (8ft), which is much lower than normal. Opponents are not allowed to defend when an attempt at goal is being made, this makes it easier to practice the correct technique for goal shooting.
Opposition players have to be 1.2 metres (4ft) away from the player with the ball when they are defending a pass. This gives players a clear view of where they want to throw the ball.
Obstruction/contact – the player doesn’t have to stand out of play. The umpire puts the player at the correct distance and play continues.

Up to six seconds is allowed between catching a pass and throwing the ball to a team mate, this gives extra time to decide who to throw to and allows for concentration and correct passing technique.

Up to twelve children can play in the game. Netta Netball is designed to give everybody a turn. Rotation of positions at the end of each quarter ensures that everybody learns how to play each position.
Finals philosophy – no scores kept, no finals played. This maintains a fun, learning environment.

In Netta Netball, a little shuffling of the feet to regain balance after catching a pass is allowed. An attempt at correct footwork must be made.
